Cathy DeFrances, CPSM

As director of business development at Fuss & O’Neill EnviroScience, Cathy loves the excitement of working with the mix of disciplines inherent in design and construction. She thrives on the challenge of identifying new opportunities and developing strategies to grow existing relationships. With over 25 years of experience working in many aspects of the industry, including  property management, real estate development, architecture, engineering, construction, and ultimately to Fuss & O’Neill, Cathy has been very successful in forging relationships and her reputation for integrity and honesty, as well as her down-to-earth manner, has been instrumental in her success. 

Cathy’s personal accomplishments include a lifetime achievement award from the Connecticut Society for Marketing Professionals, She also serves on the advisory board of the ACE Mentor Program in Hartford, the programs committee for Professional Women in Construction, and although her game is hardly noteworthy, the golf committee for Connecticut Building Congress.  


Theresa M. Casey, FSMPS, CPSM
President/CEO  |  On Target Marketing & Communications LLC

With more than 30 years’ experience in AEC marketing, Theresa M. Casey, FSMPS, CPSM, (Terry), President/CEO of On Target Marketing & Communications LLC, is one of the twelve select SMPS national Subject Matter Experts who helped form the Markendium, the AEC Marketing Body of Knowledge which defines the Society’s six Domains of Practice.

Terry has become particularly adept at telling her clients’ compelling stories regarding their capabilities, experience and key knowledge experts, earning a collection of national, regional and local AEC industry and communications awards, including the EJ Hooper Medal for best presentation paper out of 143 submitted to the Institute of Public Works Australia Conference in Melbourne, Australia.

In her role as Executive Director for the Connecticut Building Congress, Terry has been instrumental in the Project Team Awards Committee efforts over the past 7 years, and she has served as a judge for ENR New England’s first Top 20 under 40 competition, as well as for the SMPS national Marketing Communications Awards for 8 years.


Kevin Herrick, AIA

Kevin Herrick, 2017 Chair of AIA CT’s Design Committee, is a Principal of The S/L/A/M Collaborative and the Market Leader for Higher Education. With over 23 years of international experience in the industry, including university campuses in China and Africa, he brings a distinctive set of skills to projects and a personal commitment to clients and project teams. In addition to award-winning design expertise, he possesses a broad range of project management experience. This unique blend of conceptual and hands-on abilities has made him a sought-after project leader at all levels of educational design. Kevin’s work includes Rutgers University, Sacred Heart University, Emory University, and University of Pittsburgh.


Susan Labas, CPSM
Senior Associate and Diector of Marketing  |  van Zelm Engineers

Susan Labas is a Senior Associate and Director of Marketing for van Zelm Engineers, a national mechanical and electrical design and consulting firm headquartered in Connecticut. Her background includes construction management and industry environmental regulations as well as marketing and business development.

Susan has an expertise and proven track record in business development, client relationship management, marketing and event planning. She has demonstrated success in cultivating key industry relationships, and executing initiatives that open doors. Her ability to identify and collaborate with executive decision-makers, design and launch strategic programs, events and presentations, create and track processes and best practices, problem-solve and positively impact growth has also been utilized for the benefit of industry associations whose mission is to promote a vibrant future for the architecture, engineering and construction industry.

A member of the Industry Advisory Board of the Central Connecticut State University Construction Management Department since 2004, Susan recently completed a two year term as IAB Chair.  She is a member of the Board of Trustees for the American Council of Construction Education (ACCE) - the national accrediting body for construction management programs. Her activities for ACCE include serving on the Accreditation Committee, performing in Accreditation Assessment visits and acting as Chair of the Marketing Committee and Vice Chair for the Industry Liaison Committee.

Susan is an officer on the Hartford Advisory Board for the ACE Mentor Program. She is a charter board member, past president and current program chair for the Connecticut Chapter of Professional Women in Construction. She has served as Lead Juror for the Connecticut Associated Builders and Contractors Excellence in Construction Awards since 2009. Susan also served for seven years on the board of the Connecticut Building Congress and is a past president of the Hartford Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction. She is a member of The Women’s Forum of the Connecticut Chapter of ACHE.

Susan holds a Bachelor's Degree from Vassar College, a Master's Degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and is a Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM).
