Writing is hard, and proposal writing is harder. Tight deadlines, multiple authors, vague requirements – it’s enough to make even the most experienced writers overwhelmed. And for technical staff or marketers new to writing, proposals can feel impossible. The good news is – proposal writing doesn’t have to be so hard. With the right tools, anyone can write a persuasive cover letter, a thorough approach, or a compelling project narrative.

Join SMPS Connecticut for an educational session demystifying the proposal writing process. Learn the basic tenets of good writing and editing, plus strategies to overcome the unique challenges of writing for proposals and the AEC industry.

Instructor: Julia DeFrances, Marketing Coordinator BL Companies

Julia DeFrances has worked in the AEC industry for eight years, and has been a member of SMPS since 2013 – both as a student and as a professional member. She graduated Summa Cum Laude as a Double Baccalaureate from Southern Connecticut State University in 2017, with degrees in English and Philosophy. Julia currently serves as Treasurer for SMPS CT and is a member of the newly created Education Committee. As Marketing Coordinator at BL Companies, Julia is able to combine a love of creating with a passion for writing by developing communications collateral, proposals, award submissions, and more. She has worked on a lot of proposals, having coordinated over 100 proposals in the last three years alone. Julia loves to write (yes, even proposals) and enjoys sharing her knowledge with others in the industry. She believes anyone can be a great writer, as long as they have the right tools and practice.
